"Budding Artists" - 2nd Grade
In second grade, our students will begin our first quarter at Voyager Academy learning about Life Cycles of the Animal Kingdom and the effect it has on our everyday life. In the art room, we will use these driving questions to review the Elements of Art (Line, Color, Shape, Form, Texture, Contrast, Value and Space) in an effort to improve our DRAWING SKILLS. We will begin by learning to draw "what we see" and less of "what we think we see." In this way, we will become more accurate in documenting the changes in the life cycle of an animal.
"Research Notebook"
*Our first assignment will be to construct a sketchbook where we can learn to document accurately.*
The Life Cycle of a Tree - a Drawing Activity
To begin our studies of life cycles, the 2nd Graders shared what they knew about trees with me. They told me that the tallest trees started out as tiny seeds. They told me that trees give us oxygen. They told me that trees change each year, just as the seasons change! They told me a lot about trees. Did you know that you can make syrup out of the sap that comes from the maple tree?!
We completed a life cycle drawing of a tree in our newly complete Research Notebooks, then discussed how trees change during this time of the year and what they changes look like to us. We shared our finished drawings with our table-mates and compared and contrasted how our trees and our partners looked together.
