Mr. Michael J. Winstead, Visual Arts Teacher
From a young age, I always knew I wanted to be an artist. It started with drawings on the walls of my parent's house and was gradually roped into creative means through supplies, such as crayons and Snap-tite models, which gave me a more effective way to express my creative designs and saved my parents from constantly cleaning up from my "masterpieces."
I was fortunate to take an art class in every school year from Kindergarten through 12th Grade (with a special thanks to Ms. Rankin, Ms. Bailey-Smith, Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Smith, respectively) and continued art classes through attendance in East Carolina University.
With a few years in between the completion of my undergrad work and my hiring at Voyager Academy, I met and married my wonderful wife, Mrs. Winstead, adopted my "spotlight-hogging" Walker Hound, Broadway, became a teaching assistant in an elementary school and returned to school to complete my license requirements (with a special thanks to Captain Wallace and Ms. Bunch, respectively) for K-12 Visual Arts licensure. That brings me up to where we are today!
I am pleased to have the opportunity to build the elementary art program at Voyager Academy from the ground up and I'm thankful for the continued support from all, student and parent! My curriculum would not be possible without your understanding and encouragement!
